When your process fluid is aggressive enough to eat through stainless steel — hot chlorinated brine, hydrochloric acid, wet sulphur dioxide, or mixed acid streams — a Hastelloy Ball Valve is no longer an upgrade; it is the only sensible choice. Kalpataru Piping Solution manufactures and supplies Hastelloy Ball Valves across the full range of sizes (¼” to 24”) and pressure classes (ASME 150# to 2500#) in two primary alloy grades: C276 (UNS N10276) for reducing and chloride-heavy environments, and C22 (UNS N06022) where the process alternates between oxidising and reducing conditions.
Every valve we manufacture starts from ASTM B574/B575 certified bar or plate material, is forged or investment-cast for zero porosity, and is 100 % pressure-tested before it ships. Our ball valves come in 2-piece, 3-piece, and top-entry designs; with floating or trunnion-mounted balls; full-bore or reduced-bore ports; and end connections spanning threaded, socket-weld, butt-weld, and flanged configurations. Whether you are engineering a new chemical plant in India, replacing an imported Velan or Neway valve, or sourcing for an EPC project, Kalpataru delivers the right specification with MTC documentation, NABL-accredited test reports, and competitive lead times. What Is a Hastelloy Ball Valve?
A ball valve uses a spherical plug (the “ball”) with a through-bore to start, stop, or throttle fluid flow. A quarter-turn of the stem aligns the bore with the pipe (open) or places the solid wall of the ball across the flow path (closed), giving a tight shut-off with very low pressure drop in the open position.
When that ball and body are machined or cast from Hastelloy — a registered family of nickel-based superalloys developed by Haynes International — the assembly gains chemical resistance far beyond what stainless steel, carbon steel, or even duplex steel can offer:
- Hastelloy C276 (UNS N10276 / DIN 2.4819): The most widely used grade in corrosive fluid service. Its high molybdenum content (15–17 %) gives exceptional resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress-corrosion cracking in chloride media, HCl, wet chlorine, and reducing acids. It is the preferred choice for oil & gas, petrochemical, and pulp & paper service.
- Hastelloy C22 (UNS N06022 / DIN 2.4602): Higher chromium content (20–22 %) makes C22 superior in oxidising environments — nitric acid, chromic acid, mixed acid — and in services that cycle between oxidising and reducing conditions. The pharmaceutical and fine-chemical industries favour C22 for its outstanding resistance to localised attack.
- Hastelloy B2 (UNS N10665): Chosen specifically for pure hydrochloric acid and non-oxidising acid service.
All three grades retain their mechanical properties from –196 °C (cryogenic) to 650 °C, resist stress-corrosion cracking that would crack even 316L and super-duplex grades, and can be welded without post-weld heat treatment in most applications.
Kalpataru Piping Solution stocks and manufactures these valves alongside a broad range of corrosion-resistant alloy products including Hastelloy Manifold Valves, Inconel Valves, Monel Valves, and Duplex Steel Ball Valves.

Types of Hastelloy Ball Valves
By Body Design
Type | Key Feature | Best For |
|---|---|---|
2-Piece Ball Valve | Body split into two halves; most economical | General-purpose pipeline isolation |
3-Piece Ball Valve | Centre body removable without disturbing pipeline | Maintenance-intensive or high-purity service |
Top-Entry Ball Valve | Ball accessed from the top; inline serviceable | High-pressure, large-bore pipelines |
1-Piece Ball Valve | Single-cast body; lightest weight | Instrumentation, small-bore tubing |
By Ball & Seat Mechanism
- Floating Ball Valve: Ball is free to float slightly toward the downstream seat under line pressure, creating a tight seal. Suited for smaller sizes (up to 4”) and moderate pressures.
- Trunnion-Mounted Ball Valve: Ball is fixed at top and bottom by trunnions; spring-loaded seats move toward the ball. Preferred for large diameters (4” and above) and high-pressure classes (600# to 2500#) where floating-ball seat loads would be unacceptable.
By Bore
- Full-Bore (Full-Port): Bore equals nominal pipe ID; zero restriction, easy pigging, minimal pressure drop — preferred for slurry, viscous, or pig-passable lines.
- Reduced-Bore (Reduced-Port): Bore one size smaller than pipe; more compact and lighter — suitable for clean fluids where pressure drop is acceptable.
By End Connection
- Threaded (NPT / BSPT / BSPP) — small bore (¼” to 2”), quick installation
- Socket Weld (SW) — high-integrity joint for small bore, high-pressure service
- Butt Weld (BW) — seamless pipeline joint; ideal for large bore and cryogenic service
- Flanged (RF / RTJ / FF) — ASME B16.5; easy removal for maintenance
By Operation
- Manual Lever — standard for small bore; quarter-turn open/close
- Gear Operated — worm gear reduces operating torque for large-bore or high-pressure valves
- Pneumatic Actuator — rapid automation; fail-safe (spring-return) option available
- Electric Actuator — remote operation with position feedback and modulating control
- Hydraulic Actuator — high-force; subsea and wellhead applications

Frequently Asked Questions — Hastelloy Ball Valves
A Hastelloy ball valve is a quarter-turn shut-off valve whose closure element is a drilled, spherical ball manufactured from nickel-based Hastelloy alloy (most commonly C276 or C22). When the ball’s bore aligns with the pipe bore, fluid flows freely; a 90° turn blocks flow completely. The nickel-molybdenum-chromium metallurgy gives Hastelloy exceptional resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress-corrosion cracking in aggressive media that would rapidly destroy stainless steel or carbon-steel valves.
Hastelloy C276 (UNS N10276) contains roughly 16% molybdenum, making it the benchmark choice for hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid, and chloride-rich environments. Hastelloy C22 (UNS N06022) adds a higher chromium content (~22%) and a modest tungsten addition, which gives it superior resistance to oxidising acids, mixed acid environments, wet chlorine gas, and hypochlorite solutions where C276 can be borderline. In practice, C276 ball valves dominate general chemical-process and offshore service; C22 ball valves are preferred in pharmaceutical, bleach, and flue-gas desulphurisation applications.
Kalpataru Piping Solution supplies Hastelloy ball valves from Class 150 through Class 2500 per ASME B16.34. The practical service envelope spans −29 °C to +260 °C for PTFE-seated floating-ball designs and up to +450 °C for metal-seated or fire-safe trunnion designs. For cryogenic duty (down to −196 °C), extended-bonnet versions with vented stem seals are available on request.
Yes. Our Hastelloy ball valves are designed and tested to API 607 (soft-seat valves) and API 6FA (flanged valves) fire-safe standards. In the event of a seat fire, the metal-to-metal contact between the ball and the body provides an emergency shut-off until the valve is repaired. Fire-safe test certificates and third-party inspection reports (TPI) are available for every lot.
We supply Hastelloy ball valves with flanged ends (ASME B16.5 Class 150–2500, ASME B16.47 for large-bore), butt-weld ends (ASME B16.25 bevel), socket-weld ends (ASME B16.11), and threaded ends (ASME B1.20.1 NPT). Face-to-face and end-to-end dimensions conform to ASME B16.10 for flanged valves and API 6D for pipeline valves. Two-piece and three-piece body configurations are also available for ease of in-line maintenance.
